We are excited to advise all sailors that we have finalised details on the optional group excursions planned by the Fireball Worlds Committee for the 10th and 14 December. Below you will find all the details on these exceptional trips including a tour to the beautiful Featherbed Nature Reserve in Knysna, a game drive and boma dinner at Bottlierskop Nature Reserve as well as journey on the recently launched Diaz Express.

We would like to encourage all participants and their families to join us on these excursions as an opportunity to experience some of the sensational scenery, wildlife and hospitality of the famed Garden Route. Space is limited on these trips so we recommend you pre-book your space now. Remember that early entries for the regatta close on the 04 September. These excursions can be paid upfront with your entry fee or on arrival at the event. We do however need an indication of your interest in joining the trips for planning purposes.

Featherbed Excursion

Explore the beauty of the Featherbed Nature Reserve and the quaint coastal town of Knysna on this relaxed day excursion up the Garden Route.

En-route to the Featherbed Nature Reserve the group will stop off in the cosy town of Sedgefield to visit the local market for an opportunity to browse and purchase local arts and crafts while meetings some of the charasmatic people whole live on the Garden Route.

Featherbed is a pristine piece of paradise situated on the Western Head of Knysna. It is a privately-owned, registered Nature Reserve and a South African Heritage Site, accessible to the public by ferry only. The Featherbed ‘Eco Tour’ is a wonderful outing for all ages and fitness levels and includes the following:

  • Return bus transport to Knysna from MBYC
  • Return ferry trip on the Knysna Lagoon to the Western Head.
  • 4x4 vehicle & trailer drive up the headland onto the Reserve, stopping at spectacular viewpoints.
  • Specialist guide giving information on history, fauna & flora.
  • Optional guided 2.2km walk through coastal forest and fynbos into ancient sea caves.
  • World renowned buffet lunch at an outdoor restaurant setting under a canopy of Milkwood trees.

Good walking shoes are recommended as are your camera, hats and sunblock in summer and a warm jacket for the ferry trip.

Botlierskop Excursion

Take the opportunity to witness Africa’s magnificent wildlife of an afternoon excursion to the Botlierskop Game Reserve with an evening boma dinner under the African stars.

Situated between the magnificent Outeniqua Mountains in the heart of the Garden Route, lies the 3500 hectare Botlierskop Private Game Reserve. Offering a unique South African Safari experience, the reserve is home to an abundance of animals including 4 of the Big 5; lion, elephant, buffalo, giraffe, rhino, hippo, rare black impala and more as well as unique bird life. The Botleirskop excursion includes:

  • Return bus transport to Botlierskop from MBYC
  • 3 Hour sunset Game Drive in an open 4x4 vehicle with a dedicated safari guide
  • Special Safari dinner- African braai/ barbecue in a unique outdoor boma in the middle of the bush below a giant Yellowwood tree under the stars

Your camera, hats and sunblock is recommended for the Game drive as well as a warm jacket for the Boma dinner .
